Two Pen and Ink Compositional Studies of a Figure with an Anchor, Allegory of Faith (composition never realised as an oil painting); drawn on both halves of a sheet with a central vertical fold mark are two very similar sketches of a full-length draped seated figure with head looking to the right (facial features not indicated), legs turned to the left with proper left foot resting on the anchor; the sketch on the right slightly smaller but with a more distinct anchor; inscribed in old hand as 'Faith' but bears no resemblance to the finished oil painting of 1890; studies of a seated, draped female figure for an allegorical (symbolist) subject
