Six Pencil Studies of Man and Woman with a Mandolin, Reclining Man, Reclining Woman and an Unknown Subject: drawn on a large sheet of buff paper with three main sections marked with two clear vertical fold marks and two further horizontal fold marks (alongside the top and bottom edges) in the middle section a large detailed tonal study of a standing man and seated woman with a mandolin, in historic costume; below it on the right a smaller study of the male figure from the composition at the top, and a rough sketch of a female figure recling in bed (on the left); in the right-hand section of the sheet another study of the man and woman with the mandolin of the same scale and compition, but slightly more finished and detailed; in the smaller left-hand section a small study of a dressed reclining male figure in a landscape orientation and in the bottom left corner a rough sketch of an unknown subject; studies including a group composition of two figures with a musucal instrument, and other figures for unknown subjects
