Julia Prinsep Jackson (1846-1895) became the wife of Leslie Stephen (Editor of the Dictionary of National Biography and knighted in 1902) in 1878; both had been married before, their spouses having died. To the three children she had with Herbert Duckworth would be added four more--two sons and two daughters, Vanessa (the painter Vanessa Bell) and Adeline Virginia, better known in later life as Virginia Woolf.
