Pencil Compositional Sketch for 'Love and Death' showing a full-length standing robed figure of Death seen from the back with body turned to the right and head leaning forward with a scythe across proper left shoulder, crossing the threshold of an open doorway showing a bird (animal) sitting at the top step -pose similar to the figure of Death in the Tate version of 'Love and Death' but different position of proper right arm and folds of drapery not indicated; composition similar but no indication of the figure of Love; doorway closer than in the finished oil version; study of the draped figure for the allergorical (symbolist) picture
